Quality selective breeding

The ultimate goal—albeit idealist—of breeding is to produce a perfect dog. Of course, there’s no such thing as perfect people or perfect dogs! At Kihivas and Sandbrook, we make every effort to be ethical and responsible breeders. Our priority is to produce healthy dogs with excellent temperaments, dogs that conform to the standard for their breed, who are good workers and, above all, who will eventually become good citizens and best friends.

Our dogs are first and foremost lifelong companions and family members. Their secondary role is to be our team-mates in canine sports, and certain individuals also serve as breeding stock. Our dams and sires are chosen for their temperament and are tested for common diseases specific to their breed. Our dogs are home raised in a family environment. They are socialized, housebroken and crate trained. Kihivas and Sandbrook puppies enjoy an excellent jumpstart into their future life as active and athletic canines that befits the needs of their respective breeds.

We only have occasional litters. Potential buyers are carefully selected to ensure our puppies go to the best possible families. The puppies are given a temperament test and are examined by a veterinarian. They are vaccinated, dewormed, registered with the Canadian Kennel Club and tattooed and/or microchipped. Each pup is sold with a purchase contract, a non-breeding contract and a guarantee against genetic and behavioural problems.
