Sporting Scent Detection is the fun and competitive version of scent detection for narcotics, termites or explosives. The dog must locate a hidden target scent within an area and alert its handler to his whereabouts- this sport relies entirely on partnership and is a great way to learn how to read your dog all the while enjoying a sport that is based completely on instinct.

- Introduction to three types of Scent Detection: Container, Interior and Exterior (Vehicle and Area)
- Encouraging the dog to use and perfect his nose (smell instinct)
- Building and perfecting your team, understanding of “alerting” signals and handling
- Introduction and perfecting touch command

Intermediate Level: Find the target scent in a specific zone and offer an indication to the handler
- Perfecting the dogs indication
- Working on three types of Scent Detection; Boxes, Interior, Exterior (vehicles and areas)
- Perfecting the team and understanding of the alerting signals and handling
- Encourage independence and motivation while searching

Advanced Level: preparation for competition and perfecting your team
- Perfecting the three types of searches: Boxes, Interior, Exterior (vehicles and buildings)
- Refining your team, working on handling and indications
- Introduction of the the second odor (Pine)
- Competition preparation

Excellent Level: preparation for competition and perfecting your team
- Introduction of the third target scent: Thyme
- Perfecting the three types of searches: Boxes, Interior, Exterior (vehicles and areas) at the excellent level
- Refining your team, working on handling and indications
- Competition preparation
5 weeks / 5 hours
Skills: preparation for competition and perfecting your team as well as Excellent and Elite searches
- Introduction of the final CKC odors (Anis & Clove)
- Perfecting skills and helping dogs to understand diffiicult odor problems; converging, pooling, inaccessible
- Perfecting games (aerial, speed, distance) and reading your dog
- Unknown amount of hides and clear area searches
